Dragons

 Students will use literature to explore fiction (fantasy) and non-fiction (information sources) through the topic of dragons. Students will compile a booklet of their own texts including narrative and information, and some mathematical texts. On completion of the unit, students will be able to explain their point of view in relation to the question “do dragons exist?”

Term 2

Weatherwise

Heat waves, drought, floods, storms, cyclones, strong winds. Maryborough has the lot! How do we live with daily changes in the weather?

Term 3

Dangerous Creatures

Students will explore the range of dangerous creatures encountered in the Australian Landscape. They will research and publish a bush handbook which identifies these creatures by description and any useful management tips including first aid procedures.

Now and Then

Maryborough is one of the oldest cities in Queensland. Students will visit locations of historical interest as they learn about the lives of people living in past eras. The unit culminates with students dressing up in period costume and playing the games enjoyed by children of yesteryear.
