Year Two Units 2007

Term 1

What’s your purrrfect pet?

In this unit students will identify the needs of pets.  They will learn how to choose a pet and care for it responsibly.  Students will speak about their pets at a Pet Parade and will learn from a variety of animal experts at our Pet Expo.

Term 2

What lives in our backyard?

In this unit student will investigate the mini-beasts within their various physical environments. They will write a simple report on an ant colony as a requirement of the year 2 net. They will research various mini-beasts and collate and display the information. They will explore the connection between plants and mini-beasts and their various lifecycles.

Term 3

How jolly is Roger???

In this unit students will join a Pirate Crew and travel through the Asian Pacific region to find the lost treasure (an invitation to ‘Pirate Day’).  Students will write various narrative texts about their pirate adventures.  Students will explore and construct simple maps and legends in order to find the treasure.  They will explore processes involved when cooking and planning a pirate meal.

Term 4

Who are our community helpers and how do they help us?

In the role of employer, students will investigate and publish a position description for a community helper. Students will track real life workers in the form of their parents through the eyes of the “class buddy”. They will use thinking lights to reflect on interesting aspects of the respective jobs.
